Course Dates

2026/2027 Course Dates

Most courses through Townsville Helicopters are structured to start with the required theory components.

We offer theory courses covering PPL and CPL syllabus at our dedicated training facility. All study materials/course notes and accessories are available from Townsville Helicopters.

Please note, students may commence flight training at any time. In most cases, students can also start theory outside of the set course start dates.

Theory classes are only available to students who are also undertaking flight training through Townsville Helicopters.

Commercial Pilot Licence Dates

2026 intakes:

6th July 2026
28th September 2026

2027 intakes:

11th January 2027
12th April 2027
5th July 2027
27th September 2027

The CPL theory course runs for 13 weeks, 0730 - 1430 Monday to Friday. Subject dates below include exam days. Classes are run as normal on most public holidays. Please note that exams may be scheduled on a weekend.

AVI50322 - Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence - Helicopter)

The AVI50322 - Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence - Helicopter) is delivered on behalf of TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)

Diploma of Aviation & CPL courses are run concurrently with the same start dates.

Townsville Helicopters provides training and assessment of this accredited qualification for TAFE Queensland RTO 0275 who will award this qualification/statement of attainment on successful completion.

Private Pilot Licence Theory Dates

We run an intensive 3 week full time (Mon-Fri) theory course covering the 7 subjects that make up the PPL theory exam.

Please note, for students eager to get in and start flying - you are welcome to come in early and fly before your PPL (H) theory course begins.

CPL Subject Dates

The last day of each subject is the scheduled exam day.

Please note that for 2026, Air Law is now taught after Meteorology, and Operations & Performance will have an additional week of revision for students who require it.

Theory classes are only available to flight training students.

One on One Tutoring

We can also offer one-on-one personal theory tuition to students who are self-studying their PPL or CPL theory, or need some extra support outside of class.
