CPL Book Pack
Below are the upfront costs for students enrolling in the AVI50322 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence-Helicopter) through TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275).
Training Materials Costs
Training material costs are not included in your course fees.
Training materials include:
- CPLH Book pack - supplied by Townsville Helicopters
- Navigation Equipment pack - purchased by student
- Flight Training Induction pack- purchased by student
The CPLH Book pack contains 7 CPL subject binders/books, official reference materials (ERSA, AIP, VFRG), Law References, chart set, and suite of online practice exams.
As of 2026, this textbook pack is supplied by Townsville Helicopters. Students will receive materials at the beginning of each subject within the theory course (conditions apply - see below).
Students are only required to purchase a Navigation Equipment pack, and Flight Training induction pack prior to commencement (prices below).
Training Materials Costs (updated for 2026 intakes)
- Navigation Equipment pack containing a flight computer, navigation protractor and navigation ruler required for theory studies and navigation planning: $125.00
- Flight Training Induction pack containing your official log book, kneeboard, pilot bag, Pilot Operating Handbook/s, briefing notes & checklists: $350.00
- Can be purchased from our online store, or via invoice.

Conditions of training materials use: Students are responsible for training materials supplied to them. Any fees for replacement of lost/damaged materials are required to be paid by the student. Details can be found in the Student Requirements and Expectations Handbook.

- Class 1 Medical DAME appointment – approx. $330.00 (prices vary between providers)
- Class 1 Medical Ophthalmologist appointment – approx. $215.00 - $450.00 (prices vary between providers)
- ASIC application fee – $280 to $320 depending on the issuing body
- Closed in shoes (not steel caps) – from approx. $70.00
- Accurate wristwatch – from approx. $30.00
- Basic calculator - approx. $18.00
- Clear plastic mm ruler - approx. $1.00
- USB stick - approx. $6.00

- VTC, VNC, Aus PCA Charts - $15.50 per chart
- AIP amendments - $16.50 updated every 3 months
- ERSA - $50 updated every 3 months
