Head of Operations/Chief Pilot - Dick Arnold
Dick is the owner, Chief Pilot and Head of Operations of Townsville Helicopters. He has been flying helicopters for 30 years. During this time he has accummulated over 17,000 hours in command of helicopters with over 4000 hours instructing. He is qualified to conduct flight tests for, Private and Commercial Helicopters licences throughout Australia and for his own company. He is endorsed in a variety of aircraft including the following
- Bell 47
- Bell 206 and Bell 206L
- Bell 407
- Bell 204/205
- AS350 BA, B2, B3, FX
His career has included 11 years mustering in the Cloncurry/Gulf region and 6 years permanent flying in Canada. He has flown in almost all VFR operations including:
- Wildlife surveys
- Precision longline and sling work
- Film and photography
- Tranquilizer darting of Bears
- Geophysical Survey/ Bird Towing
- Aerial fire suppression both in Australia and Canada
Grade 1 Instructor/Alternate Chief Pilot/CFI - Paul von Bertouch
Paul is a commercial helicopter pilot and a Grade 1 Instructor with Townsville Helicopters. He is also the company's Alternate Chief Pilot. He is endorsed on the R22, R44,Bell 206,AS350 and the Blackhawk. Paul provides flight instruction and pilots the company aircraft in charter and aerial work operations. Prior to joining the company, he spent 15 years in maintenance and flying with the military and also served as Operations Manager for the Blackhawk.
Grade 1 Instructor/ Base Pilot - Tim Tanner
Tim is a commercial helicopter pilot and a senior Instructor with Townsville Helicopters. Tim has a leading role in the management of the company's marketing and tourism operations as well as having a significant role within pilot training. Tim is endorsed to fly the R22, R44 and AS350/H125.
Theory Instructor/Flight Instructor/ Base Pilot - Farley Jerinic
Farley co-ordinates and teaches the CPL and PPL theory subjects. He is a commercial helicopter pilot/Flight Instructor and operates the company aircraft in the charter and commercial work. He is also a qualified electrician. Farley has a passion for teaching the theory and has a good success rate at helping students pass their subjects. He is endorsed in all the company aircraft including R22, R44 and AS350
Theory Instructor/Base Pilot - Mick Eden
Mick Eden also teaches the CPL and PPL Theory. Mick comes from a rural background in Central Queensland. As well his agricultural back ground Mick has spent time on active service with the Australian Army and after leaving the Army he worked as a Site Supervisor on Civil Construction Projects. Mick has settled into the company culture seamlessly. He has a good understanding of the student requirements and forms a good team with Farley in the theory classroom. Mick is also a base pilot, flying the R22, R44 and the AS350
Flight Instructor/Base Pilot/Theory Instructor - Sam Arnold
Sam Arnold obtained his licence at the age of 18. He is endorsed in the R22, R44 and the AS350. Sam has spent the majority of his life in Townsville and is eager to assist the students in all aspects of training.
